ISSDA and Nickel Institute is sponsoring a special session on “Stainless Steel and Nickel Alloys for Defence Aerospace and Nuclear Applications “ on 11.11.2017 to 14.11.2017 NMD ATM at BITS Pilani Campus Goa.

Brief Report on Special Session at NMD-ATM, Goa , 12th November 2017

A special session was organized at the 55th National Metallurgists' Day (NMD) and the 71st Annual Technical Meeting (ATM) an annual mega event of The Indian Institute of Metals, where metallurgists and material engineers from the industry and academia participate and share their experiences and learnings on various aspects of metallurgical and materials engineering. A special session on  “Stainless steel and Nickel Alloys for Defense, Aerospace and Nuclear Applications” was held. Objective of the seminar was to highlight the role of stainless steel and nickel alloys in Defence, aerospace and nuclear applications. Various top organizations Indian Space & Research Organization, Defence Research & Development Organization, Department of Atomic Energy, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, National Aerospace Laboratories, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research and Premier Institutes participated in this session. The programme helps in coordinating with scientific community of the country to take stainless steel and nickel alloys promotion programme further.

Defence and aerospace is a promising growth area and government of India has announced policy of encouraging manufacture of sophisticated defence equipment in India. Stainless Steel and NI alloys can play a critical role of meeting the emerging demand from this sector. More inputs on the subject from members will help ISSDA to pursue this further.
